Udupi: A Karnataka man was allegedly murdered in Sharjah in July, with his body later found chopped into nine pieces and packed in two bags. His wife and teenage son have been missing since the incident, adding to the mystery surrounding the case.
The deceased, Alwyn Prakash Kundar, a native of Kundapur in Udupi, had worked at Sharjah Airport for around 14 years. He lived in Sharjah with his wife, Tina Kundar, a school teacher, and their Class 10 son.
Prakash’s brother, Anil Prashanth Kundar, said he last tried contacting him around July 20. Prakash did not answer but sent a message saying he was fine. The family found this unusual because he usually communicated through voice messages. When there was still no response a week later, Anil asked Prakash’s friend in Sharjah to check on him.
The friend visited Prakash’s company accommodation, where a watchman said he had travelled to India. The company’s HR department also initially told the family that Prakash had left for India. Anil, however, informed them that his brother had not returned to India and asked them to verify his whereabouts.
A check of Prakash’s passport showed that he was still in Sharjah, following which a missing-person complaint was filed. During the search, his body was reportedly found inside a car parked along the route to Oman. His remains were later identified by authorities.
The motive for the murder and the identity of those responsible remain under investigation. Sharjah authorities have not publicly disclosed details about the suspects.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Prakash’s wife and son remain unknown. There have been reports that they may have travelled to India, but this has not been officially confirmed. Some reports have raised suspicions about Tina’s possible involvement in the murder, but there is no confirmed evidence establishing her role.
Prakash’s family has said they were unaware of any dispute between the couple. His brother has approached the Udupi Superintendent of Police seeking assistance, while the family awaits legal formalities in the UAE to bring the body back to India. Udupi police are awaiting official information from Sharjah as the investigation continues.
