September Salary Early; Central Government Employees to Receive Payment on September 25 — Here’s Why

New Delhi: Central government employees will receive their September salary earlier than usual, with the payment scheduled to be disbursed on September 25.

The decision comes ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30. The Finance Ministry has directed central government offices to make arrangements for the advance disbursement of September salaries to avoid any disruption caused by the strike.

The directive covers central government employees working in departments including Defence, Posts and Telecommunications. Wages for industrial employees of the central government may also be disbursed on September 25.

Central government pensioners to receive pension early

The September pension of central government pensioners may also be disbursed on September 25 through the concerned banks and Pay and Accounts Offices.

The advance salary, wages and pension will be treated as advance payments. Any adjustment required after the full month’s salary or pension is calculated will be made from the October 2026 salary or pension.

Three-day bank strike from September 28

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has proposed a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. The unions are seeking several demands, including a five-day banking system.

The proposed strike also coincides with the half-yearly closing of banks on September 30. The period is important for several banking operations, including reconciliation, provisioning and treasury and market-related activities.

In view of the proposed strike, ministries and departments have been asked to process salary payments and other transactions scheduled for the end of September in advance wherever feasible.

The Finance Ministry has also directed banks, including Regional Rural Banks, to remain open on Sunday to facilitate customers.

Banks have advised customers to complete essential transactions before the proposed strike and use digital banking services such as mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs, Business Correspondent (BC) points and UPI if the strike goes ahead.
