CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday morning after completing his seven-day visit to London, undertaken to attract industrial investments to the state. He arrived at Chennai airport around 8 a.m., where members of the TRC and supporters accorded him an enthusiastic reception.
Vijay had left for London on the night of September 10. During his stay, he also received a warm welcome from Tamils living in London.
A major highlight of the visit was Vijay’s tour of the world-famous Silverstone motor racing circuit on September 12. The visit was aimed at exploring the possibilities of establishing a world-class motorsports city in Tamil Nadu. Vijay reviewed the racing circuit, infrastructure, safety arrangements and the commercial model used for organising major racing events.
He also flagged off a car race in which actor Ajith Kumar participated.
During the London tour, Vijay held meetings with several industrialists and business leaders over two consecutive days. Discussions focused primarily on attracting investments across different sectors in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu government claimed that investment agreements worth more than ₹15,000 crore were signed during these meetings. According to the government, the proposed investments are expected to create more than 10,000 direct employment opportunities in the state.
After completing his official engagements, Vijay left London for Chennai on Wednesday night. Before departing, several fans had gathered outside the hotel where he was staying. Vijay waved to the crowd, posed for photographs with some of them and signed autographs for fans.
He reached Chennai on Thursday morning and was given a reception at the airport organised under the leadership of the TRC. Following the reception, Vijay left for his residence in Neelankarai by car.
The London visit combined discussions with business leaders on attracting foreign and industrial investments with an assessment of Tamil Nadu’s potential in the motorsports sector.
With Vijay now back in the state, attention is expected to turn to the follow-up measures concerning the investment agreements announced during the London visit.
