RANCHI: Four people, including the daughter of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, were killed after their car crashed into a parked truck in Jamshedpur early Thursday morning.
The accident took place around 3 am on Marine Drive in the Sonari area of Jamshedpur. According to preliminary information from police, the car rammed into the rear of a truck that had been parked along the roadside.
The deceased have been identified as Trisha Singh, daughter of Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, along with Sarthak Agarwal, Naman Gupta and Vanshika Khandelwal, according to reports citing police.
The impact left the car severely damaged, trapping the occupants inside. Rescue operations proved difficult because of the extent of the damage. Rescue personnel eventually used gas cutters to cut through the vehicle and recover the bodies.
The bodies were subsequently shifted to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for further procedures and post-mortem examination.
Police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the accident and began rescue and investigation efforts. Local residents also joined the police in the operation. The heavily damaged vehicle made the rescue operation particularly challenging.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials are examining details including the exact location and manner in which the truck was parked, the speed of the car at the time of the collision and other factors that may have contributed to the accident.
Statements are also being collected from people who were present in the area. Police have not yet established the exact cause of the crash, which is expected to become clear after the investigation.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the deaths. He said he was deeply saddened by the death of Minister Deepika Pandey Singh’s daughter and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Health Minister Irfan Ansari, among others, also expressed condolences following the tragedy.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while the police investigation into the Jamshedpur Marine Drive crash continues.
