NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary on Friday, recalling his Antyodaya philosophy and its emphasis on the welfare and upliftment of the most disadvantaged sections of society.
In a social media message, PM Modi remembered Upadhyaya’s vision of placing the welfare of the person at the very end of the social and economic spectrum at the centre of nation-building. He said the philosophy of Antyodaya continues to inspire efforts towards public welfare and national progress.
The Prime Minister also called for renewed commitment to incorporating Deendayal Upadhyaya’s thoughts and ideals into public life. He said his ideas should continue to inspire the fulfilment of social and national responsibilities.
Antyodaya at the Centre
Antyodaya, a key concept associated with Deendayal Upadhyaya, focuses on ensuring that the benefits of development and welfare reach the person at the bottom of the social and economic order.
Upadhyaya also placed Integral Humanism at the centre of his philosophical framework. PM Modi has previously described Integral Humanism as a guiding force and linked Upadhyaya’s vision to serving the “very last person in the queue” while building a developed and just India.
Born on September 25, 1916, Deendayal Upadhyaya was a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and one of the major proponents of Integral Humanism. His ideas on Antyodaya have subsequently featured prominently in discussions surrounding social welfare and inclusive development.
The Prime Minister’s birth-anniversary message once again highlighted the principle that the welfare of the most marginalised should remain an important component of national development.
