Bengaluru: A 49-year-old physical education teacher accused of sexually assaulting several children died after allegedly jumping from the third floor of the Bengaluru South district Superintendent of Police (SP) office complex in Ramanagara, police said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shashidhar, a native of Vijayanagara district who worked as a physical education teacher at a private school in Channapatna taluk. He had been arrested following a complaint alleging sexual assault of several children at the school.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, when Shashidhar was brought to the SP office complex as part of procedures following his arrest. Police said CCTV footage captured the incident.
According to police, Shashidhar was being escorted by personnel after his fingerprints were recorded at the Measurement Collection Unit on the third floor. He allegedly pushed away a constable accompanying him, ran towards the railing and jumped from the building.
He sustained serious injuries in the fall and was immediately taken to the district hospital. He later died while undergoing treatment, police said.
Arrest Following POCSO Complaint
Shashidhar was arrested on Saturday evening after a complaint was filed accusing him of sexually assaulting several children at the school. A case was registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After his arrest, he underwent a medical examination at a government hospital before being taken to the Bengaluru South district SP office complex for further procedures ahead of being sent to judicial custody. Police said the circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated.
