Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has warned of strict action against those responsible for firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Shinde made the statement after visiting the actor at his residence on Sunday. He also said Shroff had suffered a burn on his right hand caused by gunpowder during the incident.
The shooting reportedly took place on Sunday evening as Shroff was returning after playing a football match. According to Shinde, five rounds were fired at the actor’s BMW. Shroff escaped direct gunshot injuries, while his driver, Firdous, and an auto-rickshaw driver sustained injuries.
Speaking after meeting the actor, Shinde said Shroff’s family, including his mother, had expressed concerns about their security. The family reportedly told him that they had no disputes or enmity with anyone.
Shinde assured the family that the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra government stood with them. He said the government attached equal importance to the security of threatened film personalities and ordinary citizens.
“No gang or individual will be allowed to engage in intimidation or hooliganism in Mumbai. No one will be spared,” Shinde warned. He added that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was treating the incident seriously.
Shinde also urged film personalities receiving threatening phone calls to inform the police immediately. He said Mumbai would not be allowed to return to the gang-related violence that marked parts of the city during the 1990s.
Fadnavis Directs Police to Arrest Suspects Quickly
Following the shooting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and Tiger Shroff. The Chief Minister sought details about the progress of the investigation and directed the police to intensify their efforts to identify and arrest the attackers promptly.
He also called for strict action against those found responsible.
Three Suspects Allegedly Arrived on a Motorcycle
Preliminary information suggests that three people arrived on a motorcycle in connection with the shooting. Two allegedly opened fire, while the third reportedly waited on the motorcycle to facilitate their escape.
A video that emerged after the incident appears to show one person firing repeatedly, while another seems to attempt to fire as well. The footage reportedly shows the suspects fleeing on a motorcycle.
A witness told India Today that the suspected individuals had been seen near a vada pav shop about half an hour before the shooting. According to the witness, they arrived on an old Pulsar motorcycle.
The witness said the sound of gunfire triggered panic in the area and claimed that the attackers fired towards the side of the BMW where the driver was seated.
Another witness said Shroff was in the front passenger seat beside the driver when the shooting occurred. One witness also claimed that, after the injured driver was moved to the rear seat, Shroff himself drove the car to the hospital. Police are yet to verify these accounts.
Social Media Post Claims Responsibility in Bishnoi Gang’s Name
A social media post attributed to Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, who have been reported to operate from abroad, circulated with a claim of responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
However, the post alone does not establish who was behind the shooting. The police investigation is continuing, and one person has reportedly been taken into custody for questioning as investigators work to identify and locate the attackers.
