Haridwar: Surendra Koli, who was accused in the 2006 Nithari killings case and was acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2025, was found dead at a tea stall in Haridwar on Friday. Police suspect suicide and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Koli was found dead inside a tea stall on Sapt Sarovar Road, opposite Lal Mata Temple in the Bhupatwala area of Haridwar. He had reportedly been living in Haridwar for the past few months and was running the tea stall from a rented kiosk.
Police from the Sapt Rishi outpost reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. No suicide note was found at the tea stall, officials said. The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination and further investigation. His family members have also been informed.
Supreme Court had acquitted Koli in all Nithari cases
Koli came into the spotlight after the Nithari killings came to light in Noida in 2006. He faced multiple cases related to the killings and was convicted in some of them during the prolonged legal proceedings.
In July 2025, the Supreme Court upheld his acquittal in 12 cases linked to the Nithari killings. In November 2025, the court also set aside his conviction in the final pending case and ordered his release
