Rakhi Sawant Gets Relief as Jhansi Court Cancels Non-Bailable Warrant in 2010 Abetment Case

Jhansi: Bollywood actor and television personality Rakhi Sawant has received relief in a 2010 suicide abetment case after a court in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, cancelled the non-bailable warrant issued against her for repeatedly failing to appear during the proceedings. The case is linked to remarks she allegedly made on her television show Rakhi Ka Insaaf. The next hearing has been scheduled for December 1.

According to news agency PTI, the warrant was cancelled on Thursday by the Civil Judge (Junior Division), Fast Track Court, in Jhansi. It had been issued against Sawant on October 16 after she repeatedly failed to appear before the court, District Government Counsel (Crime) Mridul Kant Srivastava said.

Sawant’s lawyer, Ashu Singh, subsequently filed an application challenging the warrant and submitted a copy of an Allahabad High Court order staying further proceedings in the case. The High Court had issued the stay on December 7, 2011. The Jhansi court cancelled the warrant after considering the defence’s application and the existing stay order.

The case dates back to the death of Laxman Ahirwar, a 24-year-old resident of Hansari in Jhansi, who died by suicide on November 10, 2010. His mother, Prem Nagar, lodged a complaint at the Prem Nagar police station, alleging that remarks made by Sawant on Rakhi Ka Insaaf had caused her son distress and contributed to his death.

According to the prosecution, Laxman had appeared on the reality show following marital disputes with Anita, a woman from Rajgarh. The couple had reportedly been involved in a dispute, following which Anita returned to her parental home.

Sawant was also recently in the news after reportedly supporting Sunita Ahuja in her disagreement with actor Govinda.
