Kochi: Malayalam cinema has achieved a significant milestone with Universal Music Group, one of the world’s leading music companies, acquiring the music rights of Maayan, the upcoming film starring Jayasurya. The development has brought international attention to the Malayalam project even before its theatrical release.
Produced by Rajeev Govindan under the banner of Magic Moon Productions and directed by Jithin K. Jose, Maayan is scheduled to hit theatres on December 3.
According to the filmmakers, Universal Music Group is becoming active in this segment again with Maayan, marking its return after 2013. The company’s comeback after a gap of 13 years through a Malayalam film is being seen as a proud moment for the Malayalam film industry.
Universal Music Group is among the most prominent players in the global music industry. Its decision to acquire the music rights of Maayan has added to the film’s visibility ahead of its release and marks a notable association between a Malayalam production and an internationally recognised music company.
The production work on the film, which is being prepared with several distinctive features, is nearing completion. Jayasurya plays the lead role, while Rajeev Govindan is producing the project under Magic Moon Productions. Jithin K. Jose is at the helm as director.
With the music rights now secured by Universal Music Group, Maayan is attracting attention in the run-up to its December 3 theatrical release.
