India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement Comes into Force on October 20; Piyush Goyal Welcomes Successful Implementation

New Delhi: The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and New Zealand came into effect on October 20, 2026, marking the start of the agreement’s operational phase, according to a report by Whispers in the Corridors.

The announcement was made in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of officials from the New Zealand High Commission. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal represented India at the event, along with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Agriculture Secretary Atish Chandra.

Goyal thanked the Prime Ministers of both countries for the successful implementation of the agreement. The FTA is intended to provide a framework for expanding trade and economic engagement between India and New Zealand.

The agreement’s implementation marks a new phase in bilateral trade relations. Its practical impact will depend on the specific provisions governing market access, tariffs and other trade-related measures, as well as how businesses in both countries make use of the opportunities available under the pact.

Further details on the agreement’s implementation and its implications for individual sectors were not included in the report.
