Sanju Samson delivered a blistering half-century, while Naman Dhir produced a match-winning finish.

Glenn Phillips Powers New Zealand to 225

After winning the toss and opting to bat, New Zealand posted an imposing 225/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Finn Allen scored 45 off 24 balls, while Tim Seifert contributed 24 as the hosts made an aggressive start.

Glenn Phillips then took charge with a spectacular unbeaten 82 off just 40 deliveries, striking eight fours and three sixes. Bevon Jacobs added a rapid 31 off 16 balls, helping New Zealand finish with a challenging total.

The match also marked Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to international cricket after nearly four years. However, the Indian pacer went wicketless, conceding 49 runs in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel claimed one wicket each.

India made an explosive start to the chase, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma putting the New Zealand bowlers under immediate pressure.

Samson smashed 67 off 33 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Abhishek Sharma provided further momentum with 29 off just 12 deliveries. Their rapid opening partnership helped India reach 93 runs before Abhishek was dismissed, giving the visitors a commanding start.

Shreyas Iyer and Naman Dhir Seal the Win

Captain Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a crucial 42 off 28 balls, helping India recover from the middle-order wobble. His contribution kept the chase on track, but the visitors still needed a decisive finish.

Naman Dhir delivered exactly that. Scoring an unbeaten 42 off just 15 balls, he attacked the New Zealand bowling in the closing overs. Dhir struck the decisive six as India completed the chase at 19.4 overs, finishing on 230/6.

Samson was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings. The victory gives India an early advantage in the five-match series, while New Zealand will look to bounce back in the second T20I.
