New Delhi: Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are reportedly nearing a major player-trade agreement ahead of the IPL 2027 season, which could see all-rounder Hardik Pandya move to Punjab in exchange for pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod. According to reports, negotiations between the two franchises have made significant progress, with their senior managements understood to have reached an agreement in principle. The proposed deal is expected to be processed through the IPL authorities before the November 17 player-retention deadline.
Punjab Kings, coached by Ricky Ponting, are keen to bring Hardik into their squad. The India all-rounder could provide the franchise with an experienced leader and a proven option with both bat and ball. In return, Mumbai Indians are reportedly set to receive left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod. Arshdeep’s addition would strengthen Mumbai’s pace attack, while Vinod would offer another wicketkeeping and batting option.
Neither Mumbai Indians nor Punjab Kings has officially confirmed the proposed trade. The deal will also require the necessary approval from the IPL authorities before it can be completed. Hardik’s future at Mumbai Indians had been the subject of speculation, with reports linking him to several franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
Kolkata Knight Riders were reportedly involved in advanced discussions with Mumbai. The proposed deal was said to involve all-rounder Harshit Rana and young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi moving to Mumbai. However, KKR were reportedly unwilling to release the two players.
Mumbai also explored a possible exchange with Rajasthan Royals involving Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi. Discussions with Chennai Super Kings reportedly centred on young batter Ayush Mhatre, but neither proposal progressed. Punjab Kings have now emerged as a serious contender, with the proposed Arshdeep-Vishnu Vinod package forming the basis of the reported negotiations.
The potential departure of Arshdeep could prompt Punjab Kings to look for another left-arm fast bowler. Reports suggest the franchise may explore a separate trade with Lucknow Super Giants involving pacer Mohsin Khan and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. Under the reported proposal, Stoinis could move to Lucknow in exchange for Mohsin. However, this possible deal has also not been officially confirmed.
If completed, the Hardik-Arshdeep trade would be one of the major developments in the IPL 2027 transfer window. All eyes are now on the two franchises ahead of the player-retention deadline.
