Aaqib Nabi Added to India Squad for First Three ODIs Against New Zealand

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a change to the Indian squad ahead of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, bringing Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi into the team for the first three matches. Nabi was initially selected only for the fourth and fifth ODIs. However, the BCCI has now extended his selection to the opening three matches as well, giving the right-arm pacer an opportunity to be part of the squad from the beginning of the five-match series, scheduled to start on November 4.

The BCCI confirmed the change through an official announcement. Nabi recently impressed while representing India A in a four-day match against New Zealand A in Lincoln. The Jammu and Kashmir pacer claimed six wickets across two innings, strengthening his case for an extended opportunity in the national squad. The bowler made his ODI debut against the West Indies in Guwahati last month. However, his first appearance in the format proved difficult, as he conceded 84 runs in 8.5 overs.

His recent performance against New Zealand A has now given him another opportunity to prove himself at the international level. India will begin the five-match ODI series on November 4. The squad features experienced players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with Shubman Gill named captain for the first three matches.

Shreyas Iyer will serve as vice-captain in the opening three ODIs, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been included as wicketkeeping options. The squad for the final two matches will have a different leadership arrangement, with Iyer taking over as captain and Kishan named vice-captain.
