Mumbai: Nita Ambani once again grabbed attention with her jewellery at the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations at Antilia. While she wore a vivid silk saree from Swadesh, it was her enormous ‘Amrapali Bharatam’ necklace that became the centre of attention.
The statement necklace stretches across the shoulders and brings together several traditional Indian jewellery pieces from different eras. A traditional Kerala necklace forms the upper section, while antique South Indian naths, jhoomars, earrings, billas and chandbalis have been incorporated around it.
Pearls and colourful gemstones have been used to connect the different elements, giving the necklace the appearance of a miniature jewellery exhibition worn around the neck.
According to Tarang Arora, CEO and Creative Director of Amrapali Jewels, a piece of this scale cannot simply be designed on paper. The individual jewellery pieces were physically arranged, shifted and balanced by hand until they came together as a single composition. Even the pearl strings at the back were worked out during the process.
The antique and vintage jewellery elements reportedly took around three years to source. Fourteen master karigars then spent several months working on the final composition, bringing together pieces that were originally created as separate ornaments.
Sonam Kapoor Had Worn the Same Necklace
Interestingly, Nita Ambani is not the first celebrity to wear the Amrapali Bharatam necklace. Actress Sonam Kapoor had previously been photographed wearing the same piece in November last year.
Sonam paired the necklace with an ivory-and-gold Anarkali featuring a heavily embellished yoke, wide palazzos and a sheer dupatta with gold detailing. She kept the rest of her jewellery relatively understated, wearing jhumkas, gold bangles, a few rings and a small potli.
The same statement necklace has now grabbed attention once again after Nita Ambani styled it with her festive Ganpati look.
