New Delhi: The Centre has assured that immediate steps will be initiated to strengthen the functioning of the HMT Machine Tools Limited unit at Kalamassery and safeguard the interests of its employees and workers.
The assurance was given by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises H. D. Kumaraswamy during a meeting with Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan Master in New Delhi.
The MP met the Union Minister seeking the revival of the Kalamassery HMT unit, which has been facing financial and operational challenges. He apprised the Minister of the various issues confronting the unit, including the concerns of its employees and workers.
During the meeting, Sadanandan Master sought the Centre’s intervention for the approval of a revival package, provision of adequate working capital, modernisation of the unit, enhancement of production capacity and measures to secure new orders for HMT Kalamassery.
According to Sadanandan Master, the meeting was held following a request from the BMS workers of the Kalamassery HMT unit. He said the Union Minister assured him that urgent intervention would be made to address the issues facing the unit.
The Minister also indicated that the process had already been initiated and that further steps would be expedited once the necessary approval from the Ministry of Finance is obtained.
Kumaraswamy also recalled his visits to the Kalamassery HMT unit at different stages and expressed his familiarity with the functioning and issues of the facility.
The meeting was held at the Union Minister’s residence in New Delhi.
