Thiruvananthapuram: BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar has criticised the Congress for turning Kerala Governor’s food habits into a political controversy, arguing that the right to decide what is served in a household rests with its residents. He said the Governor has the authority to decide the food served in the kitchen of Raj Bhavan, where he resides.
In a post on Facebook, Chandrasekhar targeted both the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over the issue. Mocking the Congress’s position, he asked whether anyone would visit a Malayali Muslim’s home and demand pork.
Chandrasekhar argued that the Governor should have the freedom to decide the food served at Raj Bhavan in accordance with his culture and preferences. He questioned whether the Congress had lost its sense of judgement and accused the party of behaving as though it lacked basic understanding.
Instead of making the Governor’s food habits a political issue, the Congress should focus on problems affecting ordinary people, Chandrasekhar said.
‘Where Are the Five Promises?’
Chandrasekhar also questioned the Congress over its electoral promises, asking what the people of Kerala had received as the government completed 150 days.
He said the public wanted to know what had been delivered and where the five promises made before the election had gone. He also questioned what had happened to the pledge of a “New Kerala” (Puthuyuga Keralam).
According to Chandrasekhar, the Congress was unwilling to discuss the hardships faced by young people in Kerala or the difficulties experienced by families struggling to obtain medicines. Instead, he alleged, the party was focusing on controversy surrounding the new Governor’s food preferences.
Rahul Gandhi Also Targeted
Chandrasekhar further accused the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, of creating what he described as meaningless controversies to divert attention from issues on which the party should answer to the public.
Rather than addressing key questions confronting the people, the Congress was engaging in political disputes, he alleged in his Facebook post.
The remarks add to the political exchange between the BJP and Congress in Kerala, with the Governor’s food habits becoming the latest point of contention alongside questions over the government’s promises and its response to public concerns.
